Scope:
To support the design and development of new and existing products within the engineering department, focusing on creating detailed production drawings, conducting product testing, simulations, and writing technical reports. Working under the supervision of senior design engineers, the Design Engineer Intern will use 2D and 3D CAD software to produce detailed production drawings for sheet metal components, weldments, and assemblies.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will assist in product testing, computational simulations, and report writing.

Job Overview:
The Design Engineer Intern will assist junior and senior design engineers in producing technical documentation required for manufacturing Rittal OEM products. This includes supporting qualification processes and ensuring timely project completion within budget constraints.

Key Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Drafting detailed drawings of sheet metal components, weldments, and assemblies to production standard.
  • Supporting physical testing of new products, including offsite tests.
  • Creating technical presentations for various audiences.
  • Completing product documentation (D-FMEA, Tolerance analysis, test plans, and reports).
  • Creating product safety documentation.
  • Conducting product risk analysis.
  • Liaising with other technical and commercial teams to support effective product releases.
  • Completing FE analysis on simple components and complex.
  • Using Creo 7, Inventor, and accompanying rendering software to create marketing and presentation images.

Relevant Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Essential:

  • Completion of 2 years on a BEng/BSc engineering-related course.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles.
  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD packages.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Analytical thinking skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of 6S methodology.
  • Understanding of FEA and DFMEA.
  • Experience with product development processes.
